BIO

American painter Carrie Moyer’s vibrant abstractions merge feminist and queer politics with the visual language of modernism. In Spider Swag, layers of acrylic and glitter combine poured washes, graphic forms, and surface textures that shift from clarity at a distance to intricate detail up close. Commencing with collages, Moyer develops compositions in which the variety of her processes — drawing, mopping, pouring, and staining — creates a kaleidoscopic effect. Her practice reimagines modernism's flat, more rigid surface by embracing illusion, decoration, and material play. From her position as a woman, a feminist and a lesbian, she reclaims abstraction as a site for feminist and queer expression.
